The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child won, during the 18th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards, two awards for its original production, running in London.
The production won as the Best West End Show, running against Kinky Boots, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. The play also won in the Best Show Poster category, where it ran against Cats, Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked.

The play’s producer, Sonia Friedman, was also honored during the ceremony. She received the Equity Award for Services to Theatre, for her career that span almost twenty years and includes hits like The Book of Mormon, Funny Girl and Dreamgirls.
Actor David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) won as Best Actor in a Play for his performance in Don Juan in Soho. Imelda Stauton (Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) was also nominated for Best Actress in a Play for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, however, Olivia Colman took the award home.
A huge success with the public and critics, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is open at the Palace Theatre in London since July 2016. The play is also preparing to open in Broadway, where audiences will be able to see the original London cast and experience a redesigned Lyric Theatre. The production will also open at the Princess Theatre, in Melbourne, Australia in 2019.
