Unlike in cursed child, thefounders of Hogwarts can star in a Harry Potter series without conflicting with elements already established in the books that gave rise to the franchise and, breaking, expanding what we know about the Corvinal, Gryffindor, Lufa-Lufa and Slytherin houses.
The bet of this publisher who writes to you comes amid the rumor that a series of Harry Potter began to be produced by WarnerMedia for HBO Max, a streaming service launched in the United States in 2020, but that has not yet arrived in Brazil or has spread around the world.
The news stirred harry potter fans after it was published, on Monday (25), by The Hollywood Reporter, American news portal specialized in entertainment coverage that usually give holes of reporting, many of which in the future proved true.
WarnerMedia and HBO Max have denied the assumption, but given the strength that streaming has gained in recent years, also driven by the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the production of a Harry Potter series, sooner or later, is inevitable.
Harry Potter series starring the founders
The news portal stated that the Harry Potter series does not yet have a definite plot, but Godrico Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin might as well be the protagonists.
The quartet lived more than a thousand years before Harry’s birth, which would allow the series’ producers to expand the Wizarding World without risking conflict with what was previously established, as occurred in Cursed Child.
Highly criticized by fans, especially those who only read his script, the play uses the turn-time without considering the rules described in the Harry Potter books and in articles that J. K. Rowling had written for the extinct Pottermore.
The play also subverts characteristics of characters such as Voldemort, who on stage reveals to have a daughter, even without ever having been able to love anything but power or have shown interest in any relationship.
Ancient and time-time intrigues
In addition to narratively secure, a Harry Potter series about the founders of Hogwarts would be an opportunity to explore intrigues between homes that impact hogwarts students’ day-to-day life in a timeless way.
This is the case of the feud between Gryffindor and Slytherin, so present in Harry’s school years, that it arose from the disagreement between Godrico and Salazar, who wanted to ban in Hogwarts the presence of wizards born in Muggle families.
It’s hard to defend whoever put inside the castle a monster who killed innocent people and threatened to shut down the school twice, but, as Sirius Black said, we all have light and darkness, and Salazar would certainly be no different.
In a series, which would have much more time than films to delve into character conflicts, Salazar’s attitudes, for example, could be explored from a lens that would break the Maemitism with which he is remembered.
What if the reason Salazar did not want to allow muggle-born registration at Hogwarts was not prejudice, but the fear – misplaced but understandable – that they would reveal to muggles the existence of magic and set off a witch hunt, which for a long time was a genuine fear of the witch community?
Similarly, conflicts that marked the lives of the other founders could gain anti-Manichean approaches, such as Rowena’s over-appreciation of intelligence, which led her to create a diadem that provoked serious conflicts in the future, including with her own daughter, Helena.
The houses themselves could also win with a Harry Potter series about the founders. After all, is every slytherin bad-character, the way the books narrated from Harry’s perspective make it seem? Of course not, in the same way that, like Rabicho, not every gryffindor is honored.
By deepening elements already brushed in the stories of Harry, Ron and Hermione, the series would enrich the fan experience with the Wizarding World – in addition, of course, to being set in a nostalgic setting that is a treat apart for those who grew up dreaming of receiving their letter from Hogwarts.
