The actor Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the Harry Potter films, is being listed to play the Principal on Matilda’s school, in a new remake produced by Netflix.
The information was revealed by the American news portal Deadline. Netflix has not announced the cast yet. The remake is based on the musical and the director from the theater production, Matthew Warchus, is involved in the Netflix project.
Ralph Fiennes is listed to play Agatha Trunchbull, the Principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School. In the original film, from 1996, the role was played by a woman, but at the theater, it has been portrayed by men several times.
Besides Fiennes, the British actress Jodie Comer is being listed to play Miss Honey. There is not information about who will play the main character, Matilda.
The filming of the remake was scheduled to start in the second semester of 2020, but, due to the crisis caused by the new coronavirus (Covid-19), the filming was suspended for indefinite time.

The story follows a child called Matilda Wormwood, who is impaired to attend school by her parents and starts going to the public library, where she learns how to read and develop psychokinetic abilities. She then usem them to deal with her family and to face Agatha Trunchbull, the school’s Principal.
Matilda – The Musical
The musical, on which the Netflix remake is based, premiered at West End, in London, in November 2011. The play has been on stage since then and has also been on Broadway, New York, from 2013 to 2017.
In 2012, the play broke all the records by winning seven Oliver Awards, the most important global theater award. This record was surpassed only in 2017 when Harry Potter and the Cursed Child got nine Oliver Awards.
The play was also presented in other countries, such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Korea, China, among others.
