Kyle Hubler is a teacher in Oregon, United States, who turned his classroom into a [Harry Potter] themed decorated environment.
Hunker has been teaching the seventh and eighth grades for four years at Evergreen Middle School in Hillsboro. He had already added a few [Harry Potter] elements in his classroom last year but, when he found out he would change rooms, he decided to make a decoration even more similar to Hogwarts’. Besides using objects from his own collection, Hubler also purchased others through informal selling and Facebook ads. It took him 70 hours, through the course of five weeks, to get everything ready.
The idea for the decorating came up when, while speaking to his students about dreams, he realized he could turn his childhood dream of going to Hogwarts into reality. Although he had to make a few changes, he feels he made his twelve-year-old self proud.
When the students saw the classroom, they reacted with enthusiasm. Hubler tells he even heard sighs.
“I love Harry Potter because of the impact it had on me as a kid. Being a kid can be tough sometimes ― there were times when I felt weird and that I didn’t belong to any circle of friends, and reading the books was a way to escape that and feel like I did belong. As I grew up, I became more skilled in socializing and developed stronger connections with friends, but the lessons in the books about acceptance, loyalty, and integrity stayed with me and inform a lot of the philosophy I have in my approach to teaching and how I interact with my students,” Hubler told HuffPost.
