J. K. Rowling donated approximately £15.3 million to the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, named after her own mother, who was a victim of multiple sclerosis and passed away in 1990, at age of 45.
According to the University of Edinburgh, responsible for the clinic, the donation will be used to build new centers, in addition to funding research and tests for new medicines. The research will be focused on the physical symptoms caused by multiple sclerosis and the invisible disabilities caused by the illness.
J.K. Rowling’s press representatives informed that the amount donated already includes the gift aid, system that increases up to 25% the number of a donation by directing taxes paid by the donator directly to the cause.
The A Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic was founded in 2010 after a donation made by J. K. Rowling, of £10 million. Besides multiple sclerosis, the clinic also produces research about motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and dementias.
