Warner Bros. Games and Niantic, game developer of Pokémon Go, revealed details about the game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The companies showed, for the first time, images and information about the story, that takes places just after the Harry Potter series.
After a calamity in the Wizarding World, objects, creatures, people and memories start to appear in the Muggle world. Together, Witches and Wizards from the whole world must unite to solve the mystery of The Calamity and return the “findable items” to their own places, taking them away from the muggles’ eyes. The players will be a member of the International Statute of Secrecy Task Force, formed by Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards.
To participate, the gamer must use augmented reality and decorate his or her photo with wizarding objects, such as hats and scarfs, in addition, the user will have to create his or her own profile, which includes the Hogwarts house and wand – material, size, and core.
In the game, a map will show treats of magic found in the real world that must be returned to the Wizarding World. Besides a variety of spells, players will also find ingredients for potions, that can vary according to place, climate and period of the day. Similar to Pokéstops, players will find pubs to recover the energy for spells.
In addition to “findable” items, users will also see usual objects, which are hidden Portkeys that will take them to known Wizarding World places, like Ollivander’s Wand shop. When accessing the Portkey, players will witness an augmented reality experience in 360º.
For Wizards disposed to battles, the game map will also show several Forts, where players will be able to duel in real time against villains such as Death Eaters and Dementors. Inside the Forts, rare “findable” items can be found.
Duels will also be assisted by the choice of the profession from each player. Teachers, Aurors, and Magizoologists will have different abilities, which will be necessary in different moments.
According to Tecmundo, that traveled to Niantic headquarter in São Francisco, the game will have translation of all texts and dubbing of all lines.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be released in 2019. Android users are already able to pre-register to get a notification when the game is released.
