Celebrating the start of a new school year at Hogwarts on September 1st, the producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child announced the whole cast of the Australian production, which premiers in Melbourne, in January, 2019.
Gareth Reeves, Paula Arundell and Gyton Grantley will play Harry, Hermione and Ron, while Lucy Goleby and Tom Wren will be Ginny Potter and Draco Malfoy. Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy will be portrayed by Sean Rees-Wemyss and William McKenna.
Previews start in Melbourne on January 16th, 2019, at the Princess Theatre. The official premiere is scheduled for February 23rd. Tickets are already available.
Over all, there are 42 actors taking turns in several roles, including seven children. Completing the cast are Iopu Auva’a, Damien Avery, Mike Bishop, Simon Chandler, Clare Chihambakwe, Louis Corbett, Gillian Cosgriff, Manali Datar, Mark Dickinson, Lyndall Grant, George Henare, Soren Jensen, Hamish Johnston, Madeleine Jones, Amanda LaBonté, Debra Lawrance, Kuda Mapeza, Kirsty Marillier, Cle Morgan, James O’Connell, David Paterson, John Shearman, David Simes, Hayden Spencer, Slone Sudiro, Connor Sweeney, Jessica Vickers and Hannah Waterman.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, acclaimed by both audience and critics, has been performed at the Palace Theatre, in London, since July 2016, breaking records of awards received at the Olivier Awards. Besides the English capital, the play has also been performed on Broadway since April 2018, receiving six Tony Awards, considered the Oscar of theater productions. The play is also scheduled to premiere in San Francisco in 2019 and Hamburg, Germany, in 2020.
