The British publishing house Bloomsbury revealed the cover of the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by Jim Kay. The cover art shows Harry Potter entering the Quidditch field in Hogwarts, transformed in an arena, ready to face the Hungarian Horntail during the first task in the Triwizard Tournament.
With 115 original illustrations, the book will be released in English on October 9, 2019.
Jim Kay explained to POTTERISH that the choice of a cover is a joint – and hard – decision between the editors and him. “People expect to see Harry on the cover, which limits things to some degree. It is also an awkward shape to compose an image on: it has to go over the spine onto the reverse cover, but leave space for the title”, he said.
He believed that the Goblet was not eye-catching enough. For this reason, he considered the other Triwizard tasks – Black Lake and Maze – and the arrival of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang delegations to Hogwarts, until the final decision.
