Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is getting an official behind-the-scenes book. It is going to show the play’s story since its beginning, starting with the plot development, until the gathering of all artists whose work is seen on stage. The release is scheduled for September 17, 2019.
Besides interviews with the people involved in the production and creation of the play, the book will bring unedited photos of scenes on stage, backstage photos, sketches, and notes.
Called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Journey, the book was written by Jody Revenson (author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Movie-Making News and books as The Creature Vault and The Artefact Vault) in collaboration with Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, J.K. Rowling’s company that manages theatrical productions.
In deluxe hardcover format, the book will be published in England by Little, Brown and in the United States by Scholastic. An e-book will be released by Pottermore on the same date.
Acclaimed by audiences and critics, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened in 2016, at the Palace Theater in London. In 2018, it opened at the Lyric Theater, on Broadway, breaking records of awards received on Oliver Awards. The play is also playing at Lyric Theatre, on Broadway, and at Princess Theatre, in Melbourne, Australia. In 2019, the play will get a version in San Francisco, in the United States, and in 2020, Germany will be the first country to get a translated version of the play.
