To raise money for the “Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS”, the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” play will donate tickets for its opening night and VIP party in this year Broadway Flee Market & Grand Auction. The auctions happen on September 24, while the opening night of Cursed Child on Broadway is on April 22.
As for now, the auction happens on the event’s website, with first bid of $1,600.00. On September 22, the online auction will be closed to continue during the event, which happens on September 24 throughout the day. Other plays will sell their play-related items, such as autographs, collection items or even delicacies, to raise money for the organisation.
If the on-site bids do not go over the virtual ones, the latter will win as a “silent bid” during the event, and the winner will not need to be present.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS was created as a response from the theatre community in the USA to the AIDS crisis, gathering more than $12 million to causes related in 2015 through many events. Among them, the famous Broadway Backwards show – in which actors of one gender sing songs of the other gender – , Broadway Bares – a strip-tease show with Broadway actors –, and the Easter Bonnet Competition – in which plays gather money in red buckets held by the actors after each show.
