Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, is negotiating to be part of the cast of Little Women, a new movie by the filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird). According to Variety, Emma Stone, who was previously confirmed, had to leave the project due to her schedule, obliging Sony to quickly search for an equally skilled substitute.
This wouldn’t be the first time the two actresses switch papers: Emma Watson had to leave the production of La La Land once she compromised to the remake of Beauty and the Beast, and Stone took her place, which earned her the Oscar for Best Actress in 2017.
In case the information given by Variety is confirmed, Emma Watson joins names such as Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) e Laura Dern (from the series Big Little Lies) in Little Women, a remake of the 1994 film and an adaptation of the book Little Women, by author Louisa May Alcott. The plot focus on four sisters who grew up together during the civil war that devastated the United States in the 19th century. The film would mark Emma Watson’s return to cinema, who has dedicated herself in the past two years to her work as an UN Ambassador and other social projects.
Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, nominated Best Director at the Oscars for Lady Bird, the release of Little Women is set for September of 2019, and filming should start next month.
