In recent interview to Simon Mayo, from BBC Radio 2, the singer for E Street Band and hits like “Born to Run” and “Glory Days” confirmed that he wrote a song for the first film of the Harry Potter series in 2001, inspired by his oldest son.
The song, named “I’ll Stand By You Always” is described by the singer as a ballad really different from something he would sing. It was registered at the Library of Congress in June 13th, 2001 and distributed for the Columbia Records executives as “Song for Harry Potter”, but besides not being used in any of the films, it was never released to the public as well.
A cover was announced as part of Marc Anthony’s album, “Mended”, but it was discarded without explanation. Bruce Springsteen revealed he didn’t know the reason why the song isn’t in any of the films, but he would love if it were included in a children’s film one day. At the time, the present of Warner Bros. Music division Gary LeMel was questioned about the song by USA Today but refused to make any comments. The article assigned the song’s rejection to J.K. Rowling’s decision of not wanting her book’s adaptation to be “sold out” with pop songs, decision supported by the film’s songwriter and musical supervisor, John Williams.
