The Harry Potter series got two nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards, the most important award of the phonographic industry. ( The nominees were announced this Wednesday morning (20), by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
The award will take place on January 26, 2020, in Los Angeles, United States. The ceremony will be hosted by Alicia Keys, from the hits No One and Girl on Fire.
Films
The first nomination was for the song Hedwig’s Theme, which appears in all the movies from the Wizarding World, in the category of Best Arranging, Instrumental or A Cappella. The new arranging was created by the composer John Williams, who wrote the soundtrack of the first three Harry Potter‘s movies, for the album Across the Stars, of the German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. In the album, the artist presents several songs of the composer, such as themes from the Star Wars series, Memoirs of a Geisha and Schindler’s List.
Theater
The second nomination is in the category of the Best Musical Theater Album, for the album from the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, composed by the musician Imogen Heap. In this category, Harry Potter competes with albums of the musicals Ain’t Too Proud, Hadestown, Moulin Rouge! And Oklahoma!
Nominations and awards for Harry Potter
This is not the first time Harry Potter is at the Grammy. The soundtrack of the three first films was also nominated in the category of Best Music for Visual Media, such as the soundtrack of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, composed by Nicholas Hooper, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part I, composed by Alexandre Desplat. None of the nominees got the award.
The series’ audiobooks were also indicated for the Grammy Best Spoken Word Album for Children. The Philosopher Stone, The Half-blood Prince, read by Jim Dale for the North-American version lost the award, while The Globet of Fire and The Deathly Hallows won.
